About

Deborah Deliens (1991°), lives and works in Overijse near Brussels. She’s currently finishing her MFA in Ceramics from the PXL-MAD School of Arts in Hasselt, she holds a MA in Art History and Archaeology from the VUB University in Brussels (2017), practices goldsmithing and teaches art at the art academy BKO in Overijse.

In her artistic practice, she explores what it means to be human in a society that is constantly changing and in which feelings of alienation are on the rise. Themes such as human connection, intimacy, vulnerability and loneliness form a common thread running through her work.

Architecture plays an important role as a source of inspiration. She is particularly fascinated by architectural elements that have lost their original function. By placing these within an artistic context, new meanings, stories and associations emerge. The tension between function and meaning, presence and absence, forms an essential starting point.

Her work navigates contrasts such as closeness and distance, heaviness and lightness, stability and change. From this perspective, it develops as a form of gentle activism: an invitation to reflect on how we relate to one another and what possibilities exist for connection.

By creating space for reflection on themes such as intimacy, loss and connectedness, her work invites the viewer to look closely, ask questions and become aware once more of our interconnectedness.
